Nicodemus, afraid of what the people would say, came to Jesus by night. He started a conversation by praising Jesus, probably thinking that he would receive a commendation from Jesus.
However, Jesus who knows the need of every man and sees into the heart, quickly interrupted him”… except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” In other words, though you are a Jewish leader, possibly serving the people with all your life, you must be born again in order to see God’s kingdom.
When Nicodemus wondered the possibility of such a new birth, Jesus told him that it was a matter of being born of the Spirit of God. Many people today are busy for God doing one thing or the other in Churches, fellowships and in other religious groups, without having experienced the new birth.
Perhaps Nicodemus’ visit was a quest for knowledge, to probe into the secrets of how to work miracles. The Lord offered him life, the new birth experience. Whatever God will do in and with you begins here.
You must be born again. Seek not high things, start with the basics! Are you born again? Jesus will first of all offer life to you before recruiting you into effective service.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please grant unto me genuine encounter with the Saviour. Jesus Christ.
