ANGLICAN COMMUNION DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY.
The Topic of Daily Fountain Devotional for 14th July 2024 Is “The Lord Is My Portion”
Read: Psalm 119: 49-64(NKJV)
49 Remember the word to Your servant, Upon which You have caused me to hope.
50 This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life.
51 The proud have me in great derision, Yet I do not turn aside from Your law.
52 I remembered Your judgments of old, O Lord, And have comforted myself.
53 Indignation has taken hold of me Because of the wicked, who forsake Your law.
54 Your statutes have been my songs In the house of my pilgrimage.
55 I remember Your name in the night, O Lord, And I keep Your law.
56 This has become mine, Because I kept Your precepts.
57 You are my portion, O Lord; I have said that I would keep Your words.
58 I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; Be merciful to me according to Your word.
59 I thought about my ways, And turned my feet to Your testimonies.
60 I made haste, and did not delay To keep Your commandments.
61 The cords of the wicked have bound me, But I have not forgotten Your law.
62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, Because of Your righteous judgments.
63 I am a companion of all who fear You, And of those who keep Your precepts.
64 The earth, O Lord, is full of Your mercy; Teach me Your statutes.
ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 14TH JULY 2024.
Our text today focuses on a number of issues, especially the response of the Psalmist to God’s word and the ungodly around him. God’s word gives him hope, comfort and vitality (vv. 49, v50 & v52). It is his song and regular meditation theme (vv. 51, 55). In verse 57, he declared,“You are my portion, O Lord”, and he made a firm resolution to obey God even in the midst of wicked people (vv. 60-61). Ungodly people in his community derided him, but he refused to join them. Rather, he befriended people who loved and feared God (vv. 51, v53,v63). He was conscious of his way of life, and prayed regularly(vv.55, v59, v62).
The Psalmist spent time with the word of God and was blessed. How often do you study the word of God for your spiritual enrichment?Like the Psalmist, have you made God your portion, asking Him to teach you His ways (vv.57, v64). Begin today to set out a specific time each day for being with the Lord to read, listen to and study His word. In this way, your prayers for favour, mercy and other blessings, shall have sure answers.
PRAYER: You are my portion, O Lord.
