Sermon: Judges 17:4-5
Thus he returned the silver to his mother. Then his mother took two hundred shekels of silver and gave them to the silversmith, and he made it into a carved image and a molded image; and they were in the house of Micah. The man Micah had a shrine, and made an ephod and household idols; and he consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.
LOVE WORTH FINDING DEVOTIONAL – MESSAGE FOR TODAY.
We are made for worship. When a person refuses the truth of God, he gets gods of his own making—he creates idols. We often look at idol worship like it doesn’t happen today, but it’s because we make our own. We like money, prestige, and success. We make it our sole aim in life to get those things, and sooner or later those things become the objects of our worship. We spend all our time and energy focused on those things instead of on the Lord. When physical things like health, pleasure, sports, and possessions start to steal our attention, we can make them into items of worship.
Anything you fear more, love more, serve more, and value more than God is an idol. Whatever you put in first place in your life is your god, but we were made to worship God alone.
