Today’s Word By Joel Osteen – 17th September 2026.
Jacob’s name means “a deceiver, conniver,” and that’s how he lived. His mother, Rebekah, was also a deceiver, and so was his uncle, Laban. That same manipulative spirit ran all through the family. Finally, Jacob came to the place where he wanted to change who he’d become. In a moment when he was alone, an angel showed up and began to wrestle with him. At one point, the angel asked, “What is your name?” He answered, “I am Jacob,” admitting he was a deceiver. The angel said, “You will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,” which means “prince with God.” In that moment, the spirit of deception was broken off Jacob. In His mercy, God said, “Enough is enough. This generational baggage is finished.” From that day forward, you never read that Jacob deceived anyone.
If you have generational baggage that’s been passed down to you—anger, addictions, low self-esteem, compromise, divorce—today can be your day of freedom. God is sending the deliverance, sending the breakthrough, breaking bondages. Let Him meet you and release you. He’s about to change your name.
PRAYER FOR TODAY – JOEL OSTEEN 17TH SEPTEMBER 2026.
Father, thank You that You have a new name for me and that by Your grace I am being set free from any generational baggage that is hindering me. Thank You that I can take negative labels off my life and proudly wear the name of Redeemed. I believe that You are going to bless me in amazing ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
