MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday 20th August 2026.

In the next few days, we will be drawing lessons from the life of Naaman, one of the finest characters in the Bible. Who was he and what can we learn from him?

Naaman was a general commander of the Syrian Army held in high esteem because through him, Syria had won many wars. The Scripture describes him as a great, honourable and mighty man of valour. What an amazing credential!

However, despite Naaman’s enviable credentials, he had a ‘but’ in his life. Something that stained his royalty. Something that normally brings him to an emotional valley. He was a leper. No matter how high he feels about himself and achievements, once the thought of being a leper crosses his mind, his spirit comes right down. Leprosy in Bible times was a very deadly disease. It causes the nerves in the body to rot and deteriorate while the carrier is still living, and it has no cure. In those days, leprosy was said to be contagious and so, lepers were not allowed among normal human beings.

They lived a secluded life until  death. It was a horrible, humiliating, slow and painful way to die. Whatever is true of leprosy, Naaman, in all his glory, realized how vulnerable, fallible and mortal he was. Although he was still in active duty, he knew that his days were numbered. He knew his death sentence was suspended for as long as the disease would ravage his body. Although Naaman was a wealthy and influential man, his wealth could not buy health for him.

A ‘but’ is any negative thing that occurs to rubbish someone’s good deeds. The Bible calls it ‘little foxes that spoil the vine’. They are the tares among the wheat of people’s destinies. They are planted to rubbish people’s existence. Whenever the enemy spots someone with a glorious destiny, he wastes no time to plant a ‘but’ that will distract the person from fulfilling the destiny. It could be sickness, bad luck, disfavour, lack of helpers, near-success syndrome, addiction, a particular sin, etc. But whatever it is that is a ‘but’ in your life, I want to assure you, that heaven will destroy it today, in the name of Jesus. Amen!

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Any ‘but’ planted in my life to rubbish my existence, die, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Little foxes in the garden of my life, assigned to spoil my vine, you are liars; be uprooted and be roasted by the fire of the Holy Ghost, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Enemies planting tares among the wheat of my destiny, you will continue no further, collapse and die by fire, in the name of Jesus.
