House Fellowship Leader’s Manual Lesson No: 19
PRAYER POINTS: Father, please endow me with grace to be diligent in studying your word.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leaders should remind the members on what hinders believers in fellowshipping with God and remedies.
MEMORY VERSE: Joshua 1:8 (KJV)
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
BIBLE TEXT: Revelation 10:9-11 (KJV)
9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
LESSON INTRODUCTION:
Eating the scroll is simply telling us to read, meditate and share the word of God with others. Of what essence is the bible we keep as app in our phone and under pillow without reading it. The scroll (Bible) you did not eat will be useless to you in the day of adversity.
Leader’s Diary Lesson Aim: To make members understand the reasons why studying and sharing God’s word is His heartbeat.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to;
- Know why they need to study the Word of God
- Know why they need to share the Word of God
TEXT REVIEW: Revelation 10:9-11
- The beauty in studying the word of God is that it brings sweetness to darkened situations.
- The product of studying the scripture brings fulfilment of ministry.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: STUDY THE WORD OF GOD
Reading is different from studying the bible. You read to learn and achieve knowledge only, while studying involves the necessity of retaining the information for longer period of time. Both are necessary to get the full message of the passage we are reading. The truth of the Word may be bitter sometime, but that should not stop us from reading and digesting it because the end result is sweet. Revelation 10:9-10.
TIPS FOR STUDYING THE BIBLE:
- Begin your study with prayers. 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
- You don’t have to start at the beginning.
- Choose a topic relevant to you.
- Get to know a character.
- Write down what you learn.
- Listen to the bible online.
- Read or share with someone else.
- Look up what you don’t understand.
- Pause and listen. Isaiah 30:21
- Don’t be discouraged.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: SHARE THE WORD
The word you read and digest is not to be kept to yourself; you have to share it with others. Ezekiel 3:1-4. But before sharing, examine yourself and ensure you are living the word you want to share.
- Carry your Bible with you everywhere.
- Wear clothing or jewelry that advertises your faith.
- Be opened about your faith.
- Share faith-based movies, music, books with your friends.
- Share your salvation story with others.
- Put verses on social media.
- Have regular meetings where you talk about God.
SUMMARY: Christians are to read, meditate and share the word of God with others.
CONCLUSION: Eat the scroll daily for greater spiritual nourishment.
