15. So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
16. And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
17. Now when they had seen [Him,] they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
18. And all those who heard [it] marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19. But Mary kept all these things and pondered [them] in her heart.
20. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 20TH DECEMBER 2025.
The shepherds would stop at nothing until they confirmed the good news of the birth of Jesus which the Lord had made known to them.
They had to journey in haste to Bethlehem where the baby was. Having found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger as revealed to them by the angel, the Bible says they spread the good news concerning the Baby Jesus (v.17).
Notice three things that happened following the proclamation of the shepherds concerning the new born Baby. First, all those who heard the news marveled-they were amazed at what the shepherds told them (v.18).
The Amplified Bible says those who heard it “were astounded” (shocked/greatly surprised) and “wondered.” Yes, the Christmas story is no ordinary story! Share it to ‘shock’ or ‘greatly surprise’ someone such that it may lead that someone to Christ.
Second, Mary pondered in her heart the visit of the shepherds (v.19). The message of Christmas can touch the heart to transform lives, so share it to transform the life of someone.
Third, the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for what they had heard and seen (v.20). Remember, the message of Christmas comes with ‘great joy’ (v.10). Share the good news with someone today so as to bring them great joy!
PRAYER POINT: Father; as I share the message of Christmas, may somebody be won for Christ, Amen!
