“And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.
And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”
He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
One of the two who heard John [speak,] and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).
ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 1ST DECEMBER 2025.
Andrew was a fisherman, who hailed from Bethsaida in Galilee (John 1: 44), but was called into special grace by Jesus Christ. He was one of the Twelve that became Apostles as chosen by the Lord; he is honored with the title Protokletos (First-Called) in the church, because being initially a disciple of John the Baptist, he was one of the two that first recognized and followed Jesus as the Messiah, and introduced his brother Simon Peter to Him (John 1: 40,41). Whenever you find Andrew in John’s gospel, he is bringing somebody to Jesus: his brother, the lad with the loaves and fish (John 6: 8-9), and the Greeks who wanted to see Jesus (John 12: 20-21). No sermons from Andrew are recorded, but he certainly preached great sermons by his actions as a personal soul winner.
As we celebrate him today, let us think of how we can become closer companions of Jesus through our daily and intentional study of the word, and prayers. These will empower us to bring more people to Christ by our personal touch in words and actions, and the Kingdom of God will be enlarged by our efforts.
PRAYER: Lord, endow me with special grace as I draw closer to You day by day. Amen!
