ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE  FOR 10TH APRIL 2026.

Our passage today describes the climax of Jesus’ encounter with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. As they approached the village, the disciples urged Him to stay and when He broke bread, their eyes were opened, and they recognised Him (Luke 24:30-31).

After Jesus was made known to them, He vanished from their sight and they said, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” There was a burning that arose in their hearts which caused them to believe and they became carriers of the Good News.

The disciples rushed back to Jerusalem to share the news with the other disciples, reinforcing the growing testimony about Jesus’ resurrection (Luke 24:33-35). In our lives, we too may struggle to recognise Jesus in our daily circumstances. We may feel distant or discouraged, not realising that He is walking alongside us.

However, when we engage with His Word and spend time in prayer, Jesus often reveals Himself. Each time we read the Word of God or when it is preached to us, it should cause a burning in our hearts to turn to the Lord and obey His instructions. God’s word should always teach, reproof, correct, instruct, exhort or encourage us (2 Tim. 3:16). Never get to a point where you become complacent about the Word of God.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, open my eyes to see you; my ears to hear you; and my heart to understand your Word.
