ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 8TH APRIL 2026.
Two disciples-Cleopas and an unnamed companion-left Jerusalem for Emmaus, discussing Jesus’ crucifixion and death (Luke 24:13-14). Jesus appeared to them as they walked but they did not recognise Him (Luke 24:15-16). Jesus asked about their conversation, and they shared their disappointment and confusion regarding Jesus’ death (Luke 24:17-24).
It seemed these disciples had given up hope just after three days of Jesus’death and did not believe the testimonies of the women and other disciples about the risen Christ. The good thing was that Jesus was on this timely rescue mission and began thisprocess of their restoration.
Beloved, do not lose hope in Jesus, no matter how bleak and gloomy your situation may seem. Moving around and trying to be busy with work or pleasure will not fill the void of grief, like these disciples. Jesus is always present and wants you to share the pain and grief with him. Meditate on the lines of this hymn,“There is not a friend like the lowly Jesus, no not one…”
PRAYER POINT: Dear Lord, help me to always recognise your presence with me daily. Amen.
