DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

The Hebrew proverb, “Opinions founded on prejudice are always sustained with the greatest violence,” perfectly captures the reaction of the people of Nazareth to Christ’s ministry.

Their response serves as a powerful warning about the danger of prejudice and how it can blind people to divine truth.

Jesus returned to Nazareth, His hometown, and taught in the synagogue.

He declared His mission—to preach the gospel to the poor, bring deliverance to the oppressed, and proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Initially, the people marvelled at His gracious words.

However, admiration soon gave way to doubt and rejection when they began to question His background.

The people’s familiarity with Jesus became a stumbling block. They focused on His humble origins and questioned how someone they knew as Joseph’s son could be the Messiah.

Their prejudice prevented them from accepting the truth He revealed. They also demanded miracles as proof, forgetting that Jesus never performed signs to satisfy scepticism or curiosity.

Jesus reminded them that a prophet is often without honour in his own country. He cited Elijah and Elisha, whom God sent to Gentiles when Israel rejected them.

This truth angered the people so much that they attempted to kill Him. Their hearts were closed, and they missed a divine visitation. Jesus walked away and never returned to Nazareth.

We must be careful not to allow prejudice, familiarity, or contempt to hinder us from receiving God’s blessings. God can use anyone—friends, family members, children, people of different races, or humble backgrounds—to bless and instruct us. An open heart is essential to receiving divine truth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Open-mindedness creates open doors to divine blessings.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

Revelation 7–8
