DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Carolina Sandell Berg battled health challenges in her early life. On one occasion, she travelled with her father on an evangelistic mission. Tragically, during the voyage, her father slipped and drowned before her eyes.
Overwhelmed by grief yet anchored in faith, she later composed the timeless hymn “Day by Day and with Every Passing Moment,” a testimony of God’s sustaining grace in suffering.
The question of why righteous people suffer has troubled humanity for generations. While it remains a profound mystery, meaningful insight can only be found when such pain is viewed within the context of God’s eternal purposes and broader perspective.
In Job’s narrative, Elihu listened carefully to Job and his three friends and concluded that they were all mistaken.
Although Elihu offered deeper insights than the others, he still could not fully answer Job’s anguished question: “Why me?” Job did not just want explanations; he longed for divine clarity. Neither the elders nor Elihu, who assumed he understood better, had complete answers.
Suffering can sometimes be a tool God uses to refine our faith and get our attention, but no human being possesses exhaustive knowledge of its purpose.
What we can be assured of is that God cares deeply and is always at work, even in our pain, to bring about good. Sadly, some “Elihus” are quick to speak, offering lectures rather than compassion, forgetting that wounded hearts need comfort more than correction.
If you are hurting or grappling with unanswered questions, turn to God. Seek His presence above human explanations. When God reveals Himself in your situation, relief comes, and you emerge stronger, wiser, and more anchored in faith.
