DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
David Livingstone once said:
“People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Can that be called a sacrifice that is simply paid back as a small part of a great debt owed to our God, which we can never repay? Is that a sacrifice that brings its own best reward in healthful activity, the consciousness of doing good, peace of mind, and the bright hope of a glorious destiny hereafter? I never made a sacrifice.”
His words capture the essence of true Christian service — not duty performed grudgingly, but a joyful offering of love to God.
Genuine conversion always leads to commitment, consecration, and service. While we are not saved by service, we are indeed saved to serve. Those who desire to be fruitful in God’s work must learn to deny themselves and give their all for the cause of Christ, no matter the cost.
Think of the apostles who sowed in tears through persecution, imprisonment, and death — yet reaped eternal joy and heavenly crowns. The Apostle Paul exemplified this spirit when he said, “I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” His reward was not earthly recognition but a crown of righteousness awaiting him in heaven (2 Timothy 4:7–8).
Serving the Lord may sometimes involve pain, rejection, or loss, but the reward is sure. The fields of human souls are ripe for harvest, yet the labourers are few. God is calling all believers — young and old — to rise up and join in the harvest before it is too late.
We cannot stand idle while countless souls around us slip into eternity without Christ. Like Paul, our focus should be on finishing the race with joy and fulfilling the ministry God has entrusted to us:
“But none of these things move me… so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)
Let us, therefore, serve faithfully, sowing in tears if need be, knowing that one day, we shall reap in joy — when the Master says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The time to serve the Lord is now!
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
