DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
The story is told of an old man who was asked to declare his wealth. Instead of listing material possessions, he spoke of a mansion in heaven, everlasting life, peace that surpasses understanding, unspeakable joy, divine love that never fails, a crown of life, a faithful wife, good health, obedient children, loyal friends, and songs in the heart.
Everyone who heard him was moved — for what more could define true riches than these imperishable and eternal blessings that come only from the Giver of life?
The Laodicean believers in today’s text faced a strong rebuke from Christ because they had misplaced their priorities and mismatched their values. Though materially wealthy, they were spiritually poor, and God exposed the emptiness of their supposed prosperity. Their obsession with temporal wealth mirrors the attitude of many in our modern world — even among professing Christians — who equate success with possessions and ignore eternal treasures.
The Bible warns us not to set our affection on earthly things that fade away and blind us to heaven’s eternal goal. Material abundance can dull our spiritual senses and crowd out our desire for holiness.
Thankfully, God’s mercy still extends His timeless invitation:
“Buy of Me gold tried in the fire…”
This means to embrace and live by God’s Word, which refines and enriches faith. He also calls us to repent and clothe ourselves with the white raiment of righteousness — the garment made available only through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
True riches are not measured by bank accounts or possessions but by our relationship with God and our obedience to His Word. When we value spiritual riches above material wealth, we enjoy not only God’s blessings here on earth but also an eternal inheritance in heaven.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The true worth of your life is measured by the value you place on spiritual riches.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Jeremiah 25–27
