DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

One incontestable fact of life is the fleeting nature of everything in this world, including human existence. Kingdoms have risen and fallen. For instance, the Roman Empire, at the height of its reign, was one of the most powerful and extensive political entities in history. Its dominion spanned the Mediterranean basin and much of Europe. It boasted formidable military, political, and social institutions, producing power-drunk emperors. Yet, in the end, the empire crumbled: first, the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD, and later, the Eastern Roman Empire in 1453.

Today’s text focuses on the fall of Babylon the Great—a symbolic name for this world’s Antichristian, idolatrous, immoral, and abominable system. The original Babylon, capital of the ancient Babylonian Empire, came to symbolise evil because of its tyranny and corruption. But here, Babylon does not refer to a geographical city; rather, it represents the global network of corruption and Antichristian powers that dominate the world system.

This Babylon is portrayed as a great harlot: richly adorned, exercising corrupting global influence, and drunk with the blood of the saints. Her downfall is mourned by those who indulged in her pleasures and profited from her wealth. Yet, their grief was not born of repentance, but of material loss. They were astonished at the swiftness of God’s judgment and powerless to save her.

The corrupt influence of this symbolic Babylon continues to permeate every aspect of today’s world, threatening the church of Christ. But in God’s plan, the church will triumph, and Babylon will face ultimate destruction.

As we see the events of the last days unfolding, Christians must remain vigilant. We must deepen our devotion to the Lord, live righteously, and spread the gospel with urgency.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Our ultimate security lies in leaving Babylon, not living in Babylon.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Isaiah 1–4
