DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
During the Great Depression, a man named Mr. Yates owned a vast piece of land in Texas where he raised sheep. Financial hardship brought him to the verge of bankruptcy. Eventually, an oil company, suspecting there might be oil beneath his land, requested permission to drill.
With little hope left, Mr. Yates consented. To everyone’s amazement, at a shallow depth, the drill struck what became the largest oil deposit discovered at that time in North America. Overnight, Mr. Yates became a billionaire. Remarkably, the vast wealth had always been there—he simply did not know it.
In today’s passage, Apostle Paul did more than preach the gospel to the Ephesian believers; he prayed earnestly that they would recognise and appropriate their spiritual privileges.
His prayer was that they would be strengthened inwardly, rooted in love, empowered in prayer, and ultimately filled with all the fullness of God. Though addressed directly to the Ephesian church, this prayer extends by implication to the Church of Christ in every generation.
Paul’s prayer points toward a transition from spiritual weakness to divine fullness. It begins with a desire for believers to grasp the immeasurable dimensions of Christ’s love—its breadth, length, depth, and height.
Being firmly rooted and grounded in this sanctifying love ushers the believer into God’s fullness and conformity to Christ’s likeness. This represents the highest expression of Christian vitality and echoes the climax of Christ’s High Priestly prayer in John chapter 17.
What a powerful model of prayer for believers today! When you daily prepare your heart as a dwelling place for Christ by faith, seek renewed strength through the Holy Spirit in your inner being, and desire perfect love refined by the sanctifying fire of the Spirit, you will experience consistent spiritual vitality and enjoy a compelling, abiding presence of God.
