How could Jesus be glad when Lazarus died? This text reveals what theologians call tension in the text, the Lord, the owner of life, is excited upon hearing of the death of his beloved follower.
His point was this: His active presence wasn’t there when Lazarus died, but that absence created an opportunity for greater faith. Sometimes, your struggle isn’t about doubting God’s power, but whether He’ll show His power in your case.
I’m here to announce to you that even after you’ve gone above and beyond, enduring every attack, Jesus has already dispatched help, and it’s on the way. His active presence will meet you at the greatest point of your need, and every dead thing in your life shall rise again. Hallelujah!
