Sermon: Colossians 1:16-17
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
LOVE WORTH FINDING DEVOTIONAL – MESSAGE FOR TODAY.
Imagine you walk into the kitchen, hear a tea kettle whistling, and ask why the tea kettle is on. The person responds, “Well, the electric elements in our stove are transferring heat to the bottom of the kettle, which is a good conductor, and it’s agitating the molecules of water, causing them to expand and dance around.
That eventually turns that liquid into gas or steam, which is forcing its way by expansion through the nozzle of that kettle and making a whistling sound.” That kind of response would not answer your question. A response like, “I’m making you some tea” would answer your question appropriately.
The scientist may explain what, but he never knows why. He says, “This is all happening.” But God is the why behind all of creation. He not only created it, knows what it is, and understands how it works—He also knows the design and reason for it all.
If you see a painting, you will believe in an artist. When you see a creation, you believe in a designer. And the more complex the design, the greater the designer. The beautiful thing about a work of art is that the artist is telling a story through his or her work. The artist knows what the work of art is, knows what technique was used, and knows what purpose the art is intended to fulfill.
