Sermon: 1 Corinthians 10:12-14
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
LOVE WORTH FINDING DEVOTIONAL – MESSAGE FOR TODAY.
What is an idol? An idol is anything you love more than God. An idol is anything you serve more than God. An idol is anything you fear more than God. An idol is anything you trust more than God. Is there anything you love more than God? Is there anything you fear more than God? Is there anything you trust more than God? Is there anything you serve more than God? If so, you are an idolater. Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). Don’t seek God second or third. Seek Him first.
How does an idol come about? First, it’s in our DNA; Mankind is incurably religious. It is instinctive in Man to worship. We are made in the image of God, designed to worship our Maker. In every man’s heart there is a God-shaped vacuum. That’s the reason you’re going to find people worshiping no matter where you go on the face of the Earth. If a person does not worship the true God, he or she will worship a false god, but that person will worship. Worship is a part of who you are and what you are made to do. The question is, what do you worship?
Based on this definition, what is a potential idol in your life?
Where does your worship need to be reoriented back to God?
