David Jeremiah Daily Devotional for Today 16th November 2024
If your family has saved letters written by ancestors to family members, you’ll notice striking differences: Letters were usually hand-written (sometimes typed) and often long, filled with reports of life’s miscellaneous events—more “nice to know” than “need to know.”
Before the digital age—the age of text messages, emails, and voicemail—staying in touch was challenging. But people did it anyway because it was important. In the biblical era there were prophetic messages, verbal reports, and written letters (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2). Archaeology has unearthed clay tablets used in ancient times before letter writing was invented. People have always needed to communicate and have devised ways to do it. While communication is easier today, it may have become less meaningful as we dash off short digital notes. We might take a lesson from our ancestors and rediscover the lost art of staying in touch with those most important in our lives.
Whatever your method, bridge the gap between yourself and others by staying in touch. Don’t let distance keep you from saying, “I love you.”
