Text: Job 24:14-25 (KJV)
14 The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.
16 In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
17 For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
18 He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.
20 The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
21 He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
22 He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
23 Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
24 They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
25 And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
KEY VERSE: “They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.” – (Job 24:24)

DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY
Criminal and sinful acts in the world in this age are as old as mankind itself. The tactics today’s transgressors employ to perpetrate their deeds are not different from the way the generations of old did theirs. The Bible says the criminal in ancient times “disguiseth his face…in the night as a thief…killeth the poor and needy…saying, No eye shall see me”. In this, they are plainly ignorant. The sinners of the present era are as scripturally heedless. They err as they commit their wickedness in brazen lack of understanding of the ways of the omniscient God.
Job knows better. He says the reign of these enemies of peace would not endure. “They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn”. God is still in charge of the world He created. He has not left it in the hands of man to have the last say. The universe is in His firm grip, with the calendar of events that will lead to the final destruction of the world’s evil system ever before Him.
He is longsuffering, desiring the wicked to repent and seek pardon, so they can escape eternal suffering in hell, which He did not create for man but for Satan and his fallen angels. The world continues to writhe in the pangs and pains of evil and threats of war because those behind these acts believe there would be no consequences, now or hereafter. If the laws of man are lax and permit impunity, the Lord’s are not. He says, He “will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and… will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible” (Isaiah 13:11). It is dangerous to remain in the path that will eventually lead to perdition.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God’s penal code does not condone impunity.
